Manchester United have given supporters an unusual opportunity to own a piece of the club’s history, with preserved sections of the Old Trafford pitch now available for £125 ($165.49).
The club is selling pieces of the historic playing surface after the Old Trafford pitch was completely dug up and stripped back to its foundations in June. The work was carried out for the first time in 14 years as United looked to improve player welfare and water drainage.
Old Trafford Pitch Preserved for Supporters
Manchester United said sections of the old surface were carefully preserved before being placed inside glass cubes.
The club described the items as special memorabilia for supporters, allowing fans to own a physical piece of the stadium where some of the biggest moments in Manchester United history have taken place.
The Old Trafford pitch has been at the centre of countless matches since the stadium became United’s home in 1910.
The stadium, known as the “Theatre of Dreams,” has hosted some of the club’s most memorable victories and major moments. United have won a record 13 Premier League titles during the competition’s history.

Why Manchester United Rebuilt the Pitch
The unusual sale follows a major redevelopment of the playing surface.
According to Manchester United, the entire Old Trafford pitch was dug up and stripped back to its foundation in June.
The project was completed by award-winning groundsperson Tony Sinclair and his team. The new surface was designed to improve conditions for players while also addressing water drainage at the stadium.
Rather than disposing of every section of the old surface, United preserved selected pieces for supporters.
The glass-cube presentation turns the pieces into a permanent memento rather than simply a section of old turf.
United Facing Difficult Period
The sale comes during a challenging period for Manchester United both on and off the pitch.
United finished third in the Premier League last season but have made a slow start to the new campaign. Reuters reports that the club had one win from its opening five league matches and was sitting 12th in the table.
The club also reported its seventh consecutive annual loss on Wednesday.
Manchester United said costs linked to player acquisitions and the dismissal of former head coach Ruben Amorim contributed to the deeper losses.
Despite those difficulties, the Old Trafford pitch remains an important symbol of the club’s history and identity.

Fans Can Own a Piece of History
For supporters, the sale offers a different way to connect with Old Trafford.
Instead of simply visiting the stadium, fans can now purchase a preserved section of the pitch that hosted generations of Manchester United players and memorable matches.
The £125 price includes the preserved turf displayed inside a glass cube, turning part of the old Old Trafford pitch into a collectible.
Manchester United’s decision comes as the club prepares to continue improving its playing surface while managing a difficult period away from the field.
For fans, however, the preserved pitch provides a lasting reminder of the stadium’s long history and the many moments that have taken place there since 1910.
