A tragic bus accident in Kapchorwa District has left the nation in mourning after claiming lives of 21 people, including five teachers attached to King David school. The devastating crash has shocked the education community and prompted an immediate response from government authorities. Following the incident, the Minister of Education John Chrysostom Muyingo ordered the temporary closure of King David to allow students, staff and families time to grieve while investigations and support efforts continue.
According to preliminary reports, the bus was carrying members of the school community when it was involved in the fatal accident in Kapchorwa. Emergency responders, police officers and local residents rushed to the rescue the survivors and transport the injured to nearby health facilities. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, with authorities expected to examine the factors such as the condition of the vehicle, road conditions, weather and driver conduct.

In respect to the incident, the Minister of Education directed that the school be closed temporarily to allow counselling services to be provided to students, teachers, and staff who have been affected by the tragedy. ” A total of 217 students and teachers went to this trip in two buses and two smaller vehicles. The bus which was carrying 107 students was the one that got in the accident. Twenty one have been confirmed dead and their bodies have been conveyed to hospital mortuary in Kapchorwa, “Muyingo said
” Of the 21, five were teachers including the school director. The injured are 44 and are at Mbale Regional hospital and preparations are underway to have them brought back, “he said
The Minister revealed the government has already established a multi-agency committee to investigate the crash.
” I just came out of the multi-agency meeting with security agencies and Ministry of Health. We have formed a committee at that level to look into this matter, ” he said.
The accident has once again received calls for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations across Uganda.
