The veteran opposition leader’s worsening health has reignited national concern, with supporters urging swift judicial action as doctors recommend specialized treatment in India.
Uganda is closely following the unfolding health crisis of the veteran politician Erias Lukwago, whose request to travel to India for specialized medical treatment has become the focus of national attention. The former Lord Mayor of Ampala remains admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital while awaiting a court decision that could determine whether he can leave the country to receive advanced care.
According to his legal team, Lukwago’s doctors have advised that he requires treatment beyond what is cure available in Uganda. His lawyers have therefore petitioned the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s court to temporarily relax his bail conditions and allow him to travel overseas for urgent treatment .
