KAMPALA, Uganda – July 20, 2026
Government of Uganda has officially released the burial programme for the late Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, who passed away on Saturday after a distinguished career spanning more than five decades in military service and national leadership.
President Museveni granted the veteran statesman a state funeral, recognizing his immense contribution to Uganda’s political stability, security and development.
The programme begins with official tributes and prayers in Kampala before the body is transported to Adjumani District, where thousands of mourners are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
Parliament, government officials, religious leaders, diplomats, military officers and members of the public are expected to participate in various ceremonies celebrating the life and legacy of the former Second Deputy Prime Minister.
According to the official schedule, the funeral activities conclude on Thursday, July 23, with a regional gathering at Paridi Stadium in Adjumani District. The event will bring together leaders from the West Nile and Madi sub-regions before Islamic funeral prayers are conducted and Gen. Moses Ali is laid to rest at his ancestral home.
Security agencies have also announced comprehensive arrangements to ensure the ceremonies proceed peacefully throughout.
Gen. Moses Ali served Uganda in several government official positions, including:
- Minister of Finance,
- Deputy Prime Minister,
- Cabinet Minister, and
- Member of Parliament for Adjumani West.
Throughout his public life, he was widely mostly recognized as one of Uganda’s most influential political figures, leaving behind a legacy that shaped national governance across multiple generations.
Leaders from across the political divide have continued to send condolence messages, describing him as a patriot whose service to the nation will be remembered for years to come.
