Former England footballer Raheem Sterling has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following a motorway crash involving his Lamborghini earlier this year.

Sterling appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, where he admitted to dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
The incident happened on May 28, 2026, when Sterling was driving a Lamborghini Urus on roads including the M25, M3, A327 and Minley Road in Hampshire.
According to evidence presented in court, witnesses reported seeing the vehicle being driven erratically and swerving between lanes before it eventually crashed.
Dash-cam footage reportedly showed the Lamborghini moving dangerously across the motorway. One witness described the driving as extremely concerning and said they feared the driver could cause a serious accident.
The court also heard that Sterling had been inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon while driving.
Police later found six nitrous oxide canisters inside the vehicle.
After the crash, Sterling was arrested. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the collision and no injuries were reported.

During the proceedings, Sterling admitted that he had not slept the night before the incident. His lawyer told the court that personal circumstances should influence the sentence. The court should weigh them accordingly.
The 31-year-old footballer has played for England’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal. He is currently without a club after a short spell with Feyenoord.
Sterling has now been disqualified from driving and was granted unconditional bail. His sentencing has been postponed until November 25, 2026, when the court is expected to consider a pre-sentence report..
The case signals a difficult moment for the former England international. His career has reached the highest levels of professional football. The court will now determine the consequences of his actions as Sterling awaits his sentencing later this year.
